Drift Day 30 was a monumental event. It was the first event of 2010 season, ClubFRs 30th event, and most importantly, it was an event of many returns.

Event took place in the famed USA International Raceway, otherwise known as the “rollercoaster of love”. Registration was full as usual for first events, despite the last minute registrations.

As you have seen in some of the posts on the blog, an old buddy, “Stuntman” Dave, now known as “Trapper” Dave. Has finally gotten the bugs out of the car, and resolved his ecu problems. Car was down in Chicago a week before the event for a tune, but had some ignition problems. Some of the problems were fixed pre-dday, but the car still had some troubles, it didn’t stop Trapper Dave from throwing some good runs despite the 3 or 4 year rust.

tMF Opposition driver Keith also made his comeback to drifting. After blowing his motor in his simple S13, he decided to build a Cressida with a 1JZ (one of 3 1JZs in attendance). The car is still not done, but it is looking might good. Keith got the hang of driving this car quite fast and enjoyed some fun tandems with him at the end of the day (check out the vids).

Someone who you havent seen driving finally made it back to the track. GG Member Eric, finally behind the driver seat. Not in one of his cars though, but in the seat of another 4 door Cressida, this one being the creation of mastermind Brian. VG powered 400 HP Cressida. Eric shook the rust off quite well, along with the rust on the Cressida. This should light the fire under his ass to finish his S14.

Speaking of mastermind Crab, he even made a return to the track, in the Z. Finally getting his car situated, it showed up at USAIR for the first time. Brian definately remembers how to drive, and I swear did better than ever, getting married must have upped his skills a bit, half of those are Pam’s by the way. Dandelion death!

This isn’t what you think it is, Rob is not part of our comeback event. This is actually GG member Phil, he picked up Rob’s Miata and brought it out. His only recurring comment is its scary power. Welcome to the club, should be fun watching him learn this car this year!

And of course I was there, what came back is my car, it lasted the whole day, no problems, only a minor one before it even hit the track. The car felt great, needs one final tune, but finally got it aligned, got it working proper, drove the hell out of it. All I need now is some real tires and it is good to go, oh and paint.

Now the ultimate comeback was the comeback of fun. I guess this is the year of Keep Drifting Fun, and the comeback of tandems. This event truly reminded me of the days at Norway. The days when all our cars were simple. The days when run groups were separated by novice drivers in single runs, and all advanced drivers in one group on the track at one time. the last hour of the vent consited of tandem with whoever was left. Some great runs between, myself, Keith, Leigh, AJ, Trapper Dave, etc. I hope this trend continues in 2010.

Among all the comebacks, quite a few of the usuals were out, and quite a few missing. Jordan and his S14 was out, D*Squad was out in full force. Risky Devil was out too, AJ, Illia, Leigh..
